"The Transatlantic Connection"

From Bold Street to Bleecker

The Kings of Queens.

with one comment

The No Fakin’ crew point me in the direction of “real” Hip Hop on a daily basis (whether I like it or not).

This week in particular my eyes (or ears?) were opened to an artist who hails from Queens, New York, named Action Bronson.

In a quest to find out a little bit more about Bronson’s history I stumbled across Chopped Herring Records and their “Welcome to the Great Outdoors” EP project which will feature three of the best up and coming MC’s to come straight out of NYC in years: Meyhem Lauren, Shaz Illyork and Action Bronson.

Chopped Herring Records are the first to release any of their works on vinyl and you can grab yours here before this trio blow up across the globe.

Hit the play button and listen to a refreshing return to Hip Hop with that 90’s New York flavour.

It’s a Marathon not a Sprint.

leave a comment »

It’s a marathon not a sprint, but it hurts just as much.

Having completed my first half marathon in March, my aim was always to take it to the next level and to take on the Liverpool Marathon held this October.

It’s best not to question why I am attempting to do this, I guess it’s just something I’ve wanted to achieve since the day my father told me about the marathon’s he ran in the past.

I’ve started training much earlier than I did for the half marathon – this weekend was the beginning of it all – and by the time I reach October the 9th I will have ran just under 900km before the start of the marathon.

I’m hoping I do myself justice this time.

I’ve purposely posted this to make it official that my goal is to complete the Liverpool Marathon and hopefully the added pressure of this will keep my training on track through the summer months.

With over 90 scheduled runs still to do, the training schedule is a marathon in itself.

Big thanks to ASICS for another running plan generated on my.asics.co.uk – they are undoubtedly the running experts.

If you don’t hear anything else from me with regards to the Liverpool Marathon in the coming months then I’ve probably failed.

That won’t be happening.

The Beautiful Sin City From My Room (sort of).

leave a comment »

Las Vegas isn’t to everyones taste.

The activities that take place within and behind its multiple facades are far from beautiful.

I found this out for myself and exploited it to the best of my abilities.

The memories forged in that one week in Sin City could not be created anywhere else on the globe because Las Vegas is not real.

It is not real life.

It is a microcosm of dark fantasy.

I can’t even begin to show you how detached this town is from everyday life as the 5 photo’s below are about the full extent of all photograph’s taken while we were in Vegas (pointless carrying a DSLR around the strip).

At the very least you can see we had a nice room with a view (very few Las Vegas hotels have balconies since they find most drunken idiots tend to throw themselves over the top and plummet to their deaths – nice).

I was scrolling through hypebeast.com when I spotted the video below featuring the works of Philip Bloom.

The video itself, entitled “24hours of Neon”, is a time lapse video of the city lights of Las Vegas.

The quality of the video is there for all to see, but I took particular interest when I realised that Philip Bloom had shot the majority of the video from the MGM Grand Signature Suites; the same hotel I was lucky enough to stay in and so I had an almost identical view to that of the video back in the Summer of 2010.

The video captures the beauty, darkness and sense of unknown that comes when you step into the city limits of Vegas. And on a personal note it brings back a lot of good memories of better days.

The two images above were taken from Philip Bloom’s website and give an insight into the effort that went into the video and also a shot of 2 of the 3 MGM Signature Suite Towers (each lined with fresh roses and a general sense of luxury and grandiose).

Check out more of Bloom’s work on his website and take a look at another video he shot in Vegas which presents a completely different set of images within Sin City.

Cracker Mac is back!

Sincerest apologies to anyone who ever takes out the time to view the Transatlantic Connection, I found myself in the midst of an enforced hiatus from blogging – since the 26th April to be precise.

That is a long time ago in the world of social media.

The prolonged absence was a result of university commitments and travels across Europe from Liverpool to London to Dortmund and back (with a notable visit to Manchester thrown in the mix).

Unfortunately university isn’t over till June 1st but this is the official return of the Mac – back in the game people, and with major movements being made behind the scenes that will only come to fruition in late May/June (hold tight).

Thanks for waiting so patiently.

The REAL Radio Show.

leave a comment »

The latest project I find myself a part of, and something I’m looking forward to seeing grow, I introduce to you the REAL radio show.

Helping to put together and present a radio show that promotes the latest and greatest sounds of hip hop has been an ambition of mine for a while and it is right here to witness for yourself.

A big thank  you has to go to Paris Esquire for asking me to be a part of his brain child, and also to the MESH Culture crew of Yaw Owusu, Future and KOF for paving the way for this kind of radio show to be possible in Liverpool.

The show goes out every Sunday on kcclive.com or 99.8FM (Liverpool) from 7-9pm and will feature everything from commercial hip hop, underground hip hop, old tracks, new tracks, and everything in between.

Every week the REAL radio show will be available to download here as a podcast and will be posted on the blog to listen to at your own leisure.

The “chillin’ – ice grillin’ – like a villain” edition.

Presented by Paris Esquire and Cracker Mac (undefeated), with a 30 minute mix from the main man DJ One2wo.

Featuring the Wu Tang Clan, Cee Lo Green, Timbaland, Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Mary J Blige, Nate Dogg, Dr Dre, Kelis, Pusha T, Busta Rhymes, and many many more.

If you’ve got any comments or just want to show some love, add the show on twitter: @real_kcclive and please make sure to tune in every Sunday or to take a listen/download the podcast each week.

She likes the REAL radio show.

Big love.
